The Benefits of Using E-verify

Currently, E-verify stands out as the optimal method for employers to electronically confirm the work eligibility of new employees. It nearly eradicates discrepancies in Social Security records, enhances the accuracy of wage and tax reporting, and assists U.S. employers in upholding a lawful workforce. According to federal regulations, except for a few specific cases, the use of E-verify remains optional for employers.

You can sign up for E-verify through the Department of Homeland Security’s website, which provides detailed instructions for the registration process. After finishing registration, you will need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Homeland Security, identifying you as the employer. The program then uses an automated system to verify information against databases from both the Social Security Administration and Homeland Security.

After an individual accepts a job offer and both the employee and employer have completed Form I-9, the employer can start the verification process. This must be done within three days from the employee’s actual start date.
